Ausangate Trek 5 Days: It’s certainly an adventure trip recommended for people who like walking, feel the nature, tranquility, the spirit, the energy of the Pachamama and mountains as the Apu Ausangate is the protector and the highest mountain Cusco. and the most important thing about this trip is that you know the true Perú.The Andes Perú of their people in their traditional dress, their customs and learn their way of life is superb and interesting without the presence of many tourists.
The pick up of the explorers in Cusco is at 4.30 am to go to the community of Pacchanta. After an approximate 3-hour trip, we arrive at Ausangate Lodge, where we meet our Pachamama Peru Trek team (guide, cook, muleteers) who will serve us breakfast to start the Ausangate Trek trek. We begin our walk starting a slight climb that crosses the puna (dry, high area with little vegetation) and then arrive at our lunch place after a three-hour walk. From here we already have beautiful views of the sacred peak of Ausangate 6 384 m. After lunch, we continue walking for another hour and a half to reach our camp in Upis at 4 400 m. From this point, we can appreciate fabulous views of all the snow peaks in the area. We camp and have dinner directly in front of Ausangate
After breakfast, we continue our walk ascending for two hours to reach Arapa Pass 4 7340 m. We descend to our lunch spot, crossing an area of hawks and”vizcachas” or Andean rodents. This area also has three beautiful lakes with shades of red, green and turquoise colors (Huchuy Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha and Yanacocha) and spectacular views of the surrounding snow peaks. After lunch, we continue a long and slow ascent that will take us, after approximately two hours, to the second mountain pass, the Laguna Pass 4 844 m, from which we descend, for another half hour, to our Laguna Ausangate Camp 4 660 m
Today we leave early to climb two hours towards the third mountain pass, the Abra de Palomani 5 133 m. This is the highest part of the whole hike, from which we descend for 2h more through an area of llamas, alpacas and ¨vizcachas. We will make the descent until we reach Huchuy Phinaya camp 4 615 m.
From here we will ascend to our last pass Jampa 5 072 m and descend towards the Pucacochas lagoon to finally reach Pacchanta 4 330 m after an approximate five-hour journey. Pacchanta is a small community with attractive hot springs where we can enjoy a relaxing dip. We spend the night at our Ausangate Lodge. This day we will visit the hot springs, it is one of the main hot springs of the Vilcanota Range.
This day is very important for Ausangate explorers, it will be celebrated with a pachamanca, a special dish from the Andes. All explorers and the Pachamama Peru Trek make a farewell until the next trip.
